Norwegian Industrial Biotechnology Network

The Norwegian Industrial Biotechnology Network aims to stimulate the development of biobased products through dissemination of knowledge across disciplines, sectors and geography. The network connects industry, R&D institutions and capital and is organised as a not-for-profit member association with financial support from Innovation Norway. The network’s focus is on industrial applications of biotechnology, including the exploitation of biorenewables feedstock from agriculture, forestry and the marine sectors. The overarching mission is to create value for society through economic growth, as well as a more sustainable industry. CIB Frankfurt

The Frankfurt Cluster for Industrial Biotechnology (CIB) is one of the five winners of the “Bioindustry 2021” contest held by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in 2006 to promote Industrial Biotechnology in Germany. Sixty million euros were placed at the disposal of the five winning clusters for the funding of Industrial Biotechnology projects. Since 2007, these five clusters have been bringing actors from business, science and finance together and providing support – not merely financial – for promising projects. CIB Frankfurt is the only one of the five winning clusters to focus on applications for fine and specialty chemistry. This branch of Industrial Biotechnology produces high-price products in small quantities, thus also giving small and medium-sized companies a chance to succeed in the market.
