Which input provides your business model/core technology towards a bio-based economy?
Our proprietary biotech platform allows for the production of novel natural food colorants. Our colorants are more sustainable than traditional natural colorants which are extracted from fruits and vegetables. By moving the production of natural colorants from the field into the lab, we reduce the amount of raw material needed and free farming space for classical agriculture for food production.
Which market/clients do you address and which short-/long-term goals do you have?
We are addressing the food associated colorant market, with the beachhead being plant-based meat products. Our potential clients include food producers and color houses. Our goals for the next 18 months are to scale the process to an industrial size (>1000 L) and to initiate the regulatory approval as a food ingredient. We aim to perform commercial product testing and go to market in 2023.
What makes your approach unique compared to other stakeholders in this field?
Our IP-protected fungal biotech platform allows for sustainable production of novel natural food colorants that can fulfill the expectations of the modern consumer and meet industrial product requirements. Our flagship product ChromoRed is vegan, pH-stable and temperature stable and can therefore be used in a broad range of applications guaranteeing minimal batch variation and stable low prices.
